Like the colour of the Madonna's robes in a precious Medieval icon, this strikingly blue flowering sage will pop out flowers almost all year round. Salvias are generally very forgiving of poor soils and happy in hot sunny spots.

Salvia guaranitica 'Costa Rica Blue'
APPEARANCE : Herbaceous all-year-flowering perennial; vivid blue tubular flowers. Large open habit, leaves smell of aniseed when crushed.USE IN: Cottage style gardens, mixed beds and borders, wildlife gardens, kitchen gardens. Attracts bird life, butterflies and bees to your garden.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden, in rich soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Water regularly in dry periods.
CARE: Clip over after flowering, to encourage fresh growth and repeat flowering. Cut it hard back in midsummer when it has a little rest from blooming. Fertilise in spring using a slow release fertiliser, give an extra boost during the summer heat using eco-seaweed. Protect from frost, though it might come through a light overnight one.
