Palest pink delicate open flowers with prominent yellow stamens, Smaller sized camellia ideal for suburban gardens. Better than Camellia japonica in warmer locations. Pollinating insects love these open-style flowers, great for hedging around fruit and vegetable plots.
Camellia sasanqua 'Marie Young'
DESCRIPTION: Soft light pink single blossoms above glossy evergreen foliage. Sasanqua Camellias have smaller leaves and more dense foliage than the Japonica varieties. They are more heat tolerant and earlier flowering. Evergreen shrub to 2.5 m with beautiful displays of flowers in autumn and early winter.USE IN: Ideal for screens, hedges, espaliers and large pots. They make a great display grouped together or alone as feature plants.
LOCATION: Sunny or partly shaded position with morning or afternoon sun. Shelter from strong winds and exposed sites. Plant in a free draining soil rich in organic matter. A potting mix rich with peat moss or humus is ideal added at the time of planting.
CARE: Mulch and water well, prune after flowering and fertilise in Spring. Plant in a soil which is medium to acidic. Avoid lime.
