This is the parent of our hugely popular Japanese blood grass, found in the wild across a large swathe of the globe including Australia. Deciduous in colder climates, it may well keep growing right through a subtropical winter.
Deep burgundy-wine leaves give your garden a dramatic look fast, with fluffy seedheads for extra interest. It's a great bank-binder as roots can grow over a metre long; and a favourite of redback fairywrens.
