Magnificent shade tree for warm subtropical climates, flowers in clusters of fiery-red fan shaped flowers spring and summer - usually in perfect time for Christmas - and impressively large pods afterwards, like boomerangs. Grows to 10 metres, broad and spreading for lots of dappled shade; often branches low down making it fantastic for climbing!

 

Seasonal - usually available from midsummer until we sell out.

 

Delonix regia - poinciana

APPEARANCE : Large wide-spreading tree with lacy fern-like foliage, flame-red flowers late spring and summer (sometimes spotted white), and smoothly textured bark. Produces large flat boomerang-like seed pods, may be deciduous in hot-dry climates.
USE FOR : Large gardens as a feature and shade tree. Flowers appear when plants reach maturity, usually around 10 years, but well worth the wait!
LOCATION : Full sun to part shade. Suits most soil types. A tropical tree preferring warm, moist climates.
CARE : Mulch and water well for up to 12 weeks or until the plant is established. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring for maximum flowering and new growth. Prune any low branches to above head height.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 10-15m H x 10m W.
